Composer Indra Riše CV
Indra Riše (1961) is from Dobele, Latvia. She have graduated from J. Vitols Latvian State Conservatory as pianist (prof. M. Švinka) in 1985 and as composer (prof. P. Plakidis) in 1990 etc.
In 1993 I. Riše won the scholarship of the Danish Ministry of Culture and went to Copenhagen, where she continued her studies in composition with Niels Rosing - Schow, and electro - acoustic composition with Ivar Frounberg. Thus she was the first woman in Denmark who mastered a full course in composition.
An essential role in her education was played also by:
- the Summer Workshop in new Technologies for Music Performance and Composition, University of California, Berkeley (1995),
- IRCAM Summer Academy in Paris (1999),
- International Composer's Center, Visby, Gotland (2004, 2007),
- and opera Academy, Oslo (2001).
I. Riše stayed in Denmark until 2002, composing commissioned works and periodically working as a music copyist and arranger for various orchestras for the Copenhagen Royal Opera, the Samfundet sheet music publisher, and the Danish Radio.
I. Riše has written also piano scores from dramatic - musical works by Danish composers (Ib Nørholm, Erik Norby).
Since 2002, Indra Riše has been living in Latvia and is active as a composer, revealing her locally and internationally polished talent in a comprehensive variety of genres, from songs for choirs, chamber music and electronic works to symphonic and vocal-symphonic scores.
Indra Riše has composed works for the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Liepāja Symphony orchestra, sinfonietta „Rīga“, Vidzemes chamber orchestra, National Military Wind orchestra, choir „Latvija“, choir „Sola“ etc. and worked with conductors as Olari Elts, Imants Resnis, Māris Sirmais, Andris Veismanis, Andris Vecumnieks, Normunds Dreģis, Normunds Šnē, Jessica Cottis, Ka Lok Mak etc.
Composer has prolonged cooperation with ensembles ”Wärme-quartet“(Denmark), „Putni“(Latvia), organist Ligita Sneibe, Ilona Birģele, pianist Dzintra Erliha, flutists Imants Sneibis, Ilona Meija, Anete Toča etc.
I. Riše had creatively worked at many artist residencies– as member of Danish Composers Society - Italy, France, later – International Center for Composers in Visby, Sweden; Fundación Valparaíso in Spain (Paul and Beatrice Becket Foundation); Artist residencies in Denmark, Composers Residence of Lithuanian Composers Society in Druskininkai, Lithuania; Artist residence in Kražia, Lithuania etc.
Indra Riše has four dedicated CDs (released in 1998, 2000, 2013 and 2021) and several CDs with her music among the works by other composers.
The compositions by Indra Riše have been played at festivals and concerts in Baltic States, Scandinavian countries, Germany, United Kingdom, Russia, Hong Kong, Korea, Slovenia, Rumania and elsewhere, including ISCM (International Society of Contemporary Music) organized festivals in Sweden (2009), Croatia (2011), Hong Kong (2015), Korea (2016), Slovenia (2016).
Since 2006 - 2013 Indra Riše was the leader of Latvian ISCM (International Society of Contemporary Music) section having active position promoting Latvian music internationaly. She had been jury member in competition for young composers at the ISCM festival in Hong Kong 2007 and in the Kazimierz Serocki 12th International Composer’s Competition 2011.
Since 2014. – 2015. Indra Riše worked as expert at the State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF) in music and dance branch
Since 2015.-2017. I. Riše was chairperson of Latvian Composers Society and artistic director of festival „Latvian Music days“ in 2016.
